Bank Holiday Monday - 6th May 2024. School is closed.
This week, we have been 'thinking like a scientist' and preparing an experiment to discover the effect friction has on an object.
We decided that it needed to be a fair test, so we will only change the surface and keep everything else the same.
Before we carry out our experiment we each made a prediction:
'I predict that the plastic surface will let the car travel further because it is smooth.'
'I predict that the wood surface will let the car travel further because it is flat.'
Well done to all of the year 3 children who were successful in today's spelling test. Next week practitioner and experts have 5 more new words to learn. Children who are attending the phonics catch up program, Little Wandle will be issued their new words on Monday 26th September. Remember to use the different strategies we have looked at to learn your new words. Pyramid and rainbow writing or even 'speed spelling' writing each word as many times as you can in 30 seconds. Good Luck!
The children did incredibly well in today's spelling test.
You will notice that last week's spellings are repeated, this is so the children are able to practice again and become more secure.
There are also 5 new spellings to practice.
Spelling tests will always be on a Fridaty.
Good luck!

As part of our whole school focus, Everyday Counts, Year 3 classes are striving to be the class with the highest weekly attendance.
At the end of each week, the class with the highest attendance percentages will win the Attendance Award, earning themselves an extra playtime the following week, as well as raffle tickets for each child with full attendance for that week. The winning class for each week will be updated on the display in the year 2/3 corridor.
This week the first Class Attendance Award goes to Hazel Class with 98.7% attendance for last week.
Well done Hazel Class!!
Today, we used our knowledge of decimals to open our own on shop and sell items to one another!
We have learnt that numbers after the decimal place are called tenths and we used this to work out prices for our items and to help us find out how much change our customers needed.
Did you know that 0.5 is the same as 5/10 and is half of a whole?
Did you know that 0.3 of £1 is 30p?
Why not let us work out the correct coins the next time we go shopping?
Year 3 teamed up with Year 5 to visited our local parks and litter pick. We met Amy from Stevenage Council at the parks and she gave us a talk on what happens to the litter that is collected. We found out that Stevenage Borough Council try to recycle as much waste as possible. Amy put us in to teams and provided us with appropriate litter picking equipment. We had great fun and collected lots of rubbish.
Tooday, Year 3 learned how to dance around the maypole as part of our preparations for our Jubilee celebrations!
We really enjoyed working with our partner to make sure the ribbon ended up where it should.
It was difficult trying to remember the sequence.
We're so excited for our Jubilee Day!

In science today we have been investigating shadows. We tested a range of materials to find out if they were opaque, translucent or transparent. After our investigation, we discussed which materials would be the best to make a pair of bedroom curtains. Can you find any opaque, translucent or transparent materials in your home?
