Look at our animal projects!

By Cherry Class, in Year 1 - Friday, 21 October 2022

Look at the fantastic animal projects we made at home!  We have been teaching our friends all about our favourite animals.  There were so many things we found out “Did you know, spiders have eight eyes?” and “Narwhals live for up to 50 years!”

We’re really looking forward to our half term break but can’t wait to come back to school and find out all about Diwali and seasons over the next half term.

Bee and Me

By Cedar Class, in Year 1 - Friday, 14 October 2022

The children in Cedar Class have enjoyed the story of Bee and Me so much they have made lots of pictures and there own books to accompany the story.

Bee and Me

By Chestnut Class, in Year 1 - Tuesday, 11 October 2022

This week we have been looking at a new book. Our new book is called 'Bee and Me'. It is a special book as it doesn't have any words!

We have been adding words to the book and using our phonics to segment and write these words.

We have enjoyed learning about bees and have even spent our independent time painting and drawing flowers and bees!

If you would like to look at this book at home, you can find a video on the link below;

Amazing Designs

By Cherry Class, in Year 1 - Friday, 7 October 2022

We have been super busy designing animal habitats for our topic, Amazing Animals.  We learnt about the different habitats, such as, artic, mountains, rainforests, woodland forests, deserts and the ocean.   We made a plan and had to decide what tools and materials we will need to help us make our habitats next week.   Year 1 parents and carers will notice on this week's newsletter our request for junk modelling resources.  We're very excited to start creating our imaginative habitats.

Safari Stu

By Cherry Class, in Year 1 - Friday, 23 September 2022

We were surprised and excited this week to receive a visit from Safari Stu and his animals.  We loved the lizard, snakes, hissing cockroaches, chameleon, tortoises and tenrec.  When we held the animals it made us feel happy.  The tenrec was very funny when it started running in the circle and the snake was so long and slithery.  We found out lots of information we didn't know about animals.  Thank you Safari Stu.

Perfect Picnic!

By Cherry Class, in Year 1 - Thursday, 21 July 2022

This week we asked for some help providing food for an end of year picnic and... WOW!! We were blown away at how much food and drink we received. Thank you to all of the parents and family members for helping out so much and being so supportive.

we made a snack shop in the year 1 corridor and the children went along with a plate and filled up their plate with lots of delicious and tasty goodies.
We had a lovely day today at our end of year one party.
We had a dip in the pools, ran under the rainbow sprinkler, played garden games and danced a lot!

It was lovely to sit down and enjoy food for a picnic in our last couple of days in Year 1.

Games Day

By Cherry Class, in Year 1 - Thursday, 21 July 2022

This week we asked the children to bring a game to share in class.
We loved playing each other's games and learning how to play games we have never played before.
it was great seeing the children negotiate, problem-solve, compliment and work together

Handball Tournament

By Year 1, in Year 1 - Wednesday, 22 June 2022

This afternoon we competed in a Handball tournament. We worked as a team to score as many goals as possible. The hardest part was trying to remember to stand still when we had the ball and to look for a team member who we could throw to. It was great fun playing against the other classes in the year, we really enjoyed ourselves!

Stevenage FC P.E. lessons

By Chestnut Class, in Year 1 - Wednesday, 22 June 2022

We have now had 3 of our sessions with Stevenage FC. Last week we were focusing on balance. We were trying different balances with different parts of our body touching the floor and even tried to balance a ball between two floats! It was really tricky!

This week our focus was coordination. We played lots of throwing and catching games. Our favourite game was trying to throw the tennis ball to hit the cone and turn it over, we were really good at this and at the end it took us less than one minute to turn them all over!
