Twitter is a FREE ‘micro-blog’ service that can be used to give short updates, or 'tweets', to people you know, so you can keep them informed of what you are up to, quickly and simply.
Why is Fairlands using twitter?
At Fairlands, we are using twitter to give parents/carers important messages and notifications using their mobile phones. We use the service to send you important reminders and to inform you of events happening at the school and even emergencies, like the school closing due to snow. Of course, we also communicate these things through all our normal channels as well, like our newsletters & website.
Who will be able to read the updates?
Anyone who signs up on their mobile to ‘follow’ Fairlands’ blog.
How do I sign up?
By far the easiest way to be updated is to sign your mobile phone up for text updates. It is as easy as 1-2-3!
1. Just text follow fairlands to 07624 801423. 2. You will then be asked to text back your name, PLEASE DO THIS, as it helps us keep track of who has signed up. 3. You may then be sent a text to ask if you want to sign up for your own twitter account; DON’T DO THIS, you can always create an account later if you decide to. |

Is it really FREE?!
The signing up text message is charged by your service provider at a standard text rate for this one off activating text. After that, all the text updates are FREE!
How many texts will I receive a week?
For those of you worried about your phone beeping all day, you will receive approximately two or three texts a week. Of course, some weeks you may receive none.
I would rather not use my phone, but I would like to read the updates. Is there another way?
Although the phone method is convenient and free, if you would rather, you can read the twitter on the web. Just go to http://twitter.com/fairlands The twitter website also provides RSS feeds.
I don''t seem to be getting any updates any more - what happened?
Firstly - remember that we only send out occasional updates. Check with another parent, or check the Twitter website to see if you got our last Twitter - http://twitter.com/fairlands. It could be that we just haven't sent one out for a while.
If you definitely have not received the latest Twitter, don't worry. This seems to happen from time to time if there have been any changes to your phone or network. Just resend the original text (follow fairlands to 07624 801423) and the service should start up again.
