For Your Information

School is open for children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. If you have a child in any of these year groups, they are welcome to return to school full time as soon as possible. Please make sure you let us know via the school office the day before their first day back.

We are also continuing to provide childcare for children of key workers in all other year groups. Please contact the school office to find out how to book a place if you believe your child is eligible.

Headteacher's Welcome

On behalf of the staff and governors of Fairlands Primary School & Nursery, I would like to welcome you to our friendly and successful school.

Fairlands is a large, three-form entry primary school, with the capacity for up to 780 children aged 2 - 11 years old, situated on the borders of the Old Town in Stevenage.

Our spacious layout of four buildings across two sites means that we are able to create separate, smaller 'identities' within the following phases: Early Years, Key Stage 1, Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2, each led by their own Deputy Headteacher. This creates an environment where every child is known and valued as an individual, with strong transition all the way from pre-school experiences through to Year 6.

At Fairlands, we aim for two things: Great Teaching and Great Learning!

Our motto 'Reaching High' touches everything we do as a school. We are deeply aware that children only get one chance at their primary education and it is our job to ensure that they all reach for the highest levels of personal achievement and development.

We want every child to be successful; to reach for success from the very first day they join us and as they move through the key stages of their early education, so that when they leave us, they do so with a positive view of learning for the rest of their lives, having made a large number of friends and happy memories along the way!

This includes welcoming all children from a wide range of families and cultural backgrounds, and children with a range of special educational needs, who we celebrate as a valuable part of our rich and diverse school community.

We are a strongly community-focused school, placing a high priority on nurturing positive links with our parents and carers - when families join Fairlands, they soon find themselves getting regularly involved in many ways! This strong commitment to parenting support includes signposting parents to national and local sources of information and advice; providing access to parenting groups; and delivering family learning sessions which allow children to learn with their parents.

Boy with tyreAs a fully 'extended' school, we provide access to high-quality childcare, 8am–6pm, five days a week, combined with a varied menu of clubs & activities which enhance achievement and broaden interests. Equally, we enjoy strong relationships with outside agencies and organisations, including other schools, Bridge Road Children's Centre, and national and local charities, to name but a few. This means that parents can get swift and easy access to services when they need them, where they need them.

We are extremely fortunate to have wonderful grounds and facilities at Fairlands, which are fully open for community access. We take pride in our learning environment and when you come in you will find a calm, well-organised and purposeful atmosphere.

If you are considering enrolling your child at our school, please do feel free to pop in and I, or one of the three deputy headteachers, will be delighted to show you around personally.

Similarly, should you ever wish to discuss any aspect of the school with us, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
