This term, our whole school focus is 'Learning through talk'. As a school we will be working to promote oracy skills in and out of the classroom to give our pupils the tools to express themselves fluently and grammatically in speech. We will be; increasing opportunities for talk, not just in language-focused lessons (but across all curriculum areas), developing confidence in speaking, expanding vocabulary to help children integrate richer language into their responses as well as encouraging active listening and response.
Early Years have been focusing on 'noticing' things in their environment and developing their language to articulate what they can see, hear, smell and feel. As well as, sharing special items from home as they present their 'Story in a box' to their group. This has enabled the children to learn about what makes their families special as well as celebrate the diversity in the class. Keep a look out on the blog this term, to see how we develop our oracy skills across the year groups!
