Computing in Fir class!

By Fir Class, in Year 2 - Thursday, 23 May 2024

The children have really enjoyed learning about 'algorithms' in our Computing lessons this term. We learnt that robots and computers use an algorithm to follow a set of instructions. We even used robot caterpillars to design our own algorithm and test them out.

For our last computing lesson, Miss Perry said that we could make a 'Fir Class caterpillar'' and see how far it could travel around our playground. Each child chose an instruction and added it to the caterpillar; it ended up being over 30 pieces long!

It didn't work the first time when we pressed the start button so we had a discussion on why we thought it didn't work and came to the conclusion that there were too many instructions for the robot to process. We decided to remove some instructions to make it easier to follow and it worked!

We really enjoyed testing our our class algorithm and look forward to learning about programming next term.
