Herts Young Homeless: Conflict Workshop

By Miss Shields, in Year 6 - Monday, 16 September 2024

Today, Herts Young Homeless (HYH) visited Whitebeam and Walnut to talk about managing anger and resolving conflicts. They helped us understand how these issues can affect families and even lead to homelessness if left unresolved.

The session started with students drawing what anger looks like inside their bodies. Some drew fiery shapes or storm clouds which helped us recognise how anger feels and affects us physically. We then learned about different "conflict styles" by discovering whether we’re more likely to avoid, confront, or try to solve conflicts directly. Understanding our own reactions to conflict gave us better insight into how we can manage disagreements in a healthier way.

Finally, we brainstormed ideas for preventing and resolving conflicts. Suggestions included taking deep breaths, communicating calmly, and finding compromises. HYH emphasised how resolving conflicts early can help prevent bigger issues at home and within our families.

The visit was a valuable experience, equipping us with tools to handle emotions and conflict, both at school and at home. Thank you, Herts Young Homeless, for teaching us important lessons about maintaining strong relationships and preventing family issues.
