This morning, Year 6 had an exciting visit from the Barclays Bank Roadshow van! The team from Barclays came to talk to us about budgeting, smart money habits and how to avoid common spending traps. It was a fun and eye-opening session that gave us lots to think about when it comes to handling money wisely.
We started off with a tour of their eco-friendly van, which travels all around Hertfordshire to help people learn more about managing their finances. The van is totally run on batteries to make it more environmentally friendly — a great reminder that being responsible with money can also go hand-in-hand with being responsible for the planet!
The Barclays team shared helpful advice about how to stick to a budget and avoid being tricked into spending money without thinking. We talked about things like in-app purchases, timed deals and pressure-selling tactics that can make us feel like we have to buy something right away. They taught us how to spot these sneaky strategies and think carefully before spending — skills that will definitely help us now and in the future!
To finish off the session, we got creative and designed our own business vans! Each of us came up with a dream business idea, then created a van that would help us run it — from food trucks to mobile pet grooming vans, to travelling bookshops and tech-help vans. It was a great chance to imagine what it’s like to run a business and think about what it would take to make it successful.
A huge thank you to the team from Barclays for visiting and teaching us such important life skills in a fun and engaging way. We left feeling inspired and more confident about how to make smart choices with money!
