Reaching high for the best for your child

Summertime Happiness!

Wednesday, 17 April 2024

This month, we will be talking about the value of Happiness!

We will be asking the children what makes them happy, and to think of ways to share happiness with others.

What's on your list of things which makes you happy? :0)

Festival of Ideas!

Year 5 have had a wonderful day out at the University of Hertfordshire. Poplar class took part in a murder simulation and got to crack the case! It was led by former Metropolitan Police Inspector Ash Hornsby and the Law School team. The children learned about each stage of a criminal investigation and exactly what role the police, lawyers and courts play in bringing a murder suspect to justice. We took part in the cross-examination and some of them took on the role of barristers.

Our Jigsaw Lesson

During our jigsaw lesson, we were thinking about our secrets. We can have two types of secretes including happy secrets and worry secrets. We learnt that when we have worries we need to tell other people, including our families and friends. We then shared our examples as a class and it made us feel better about our worries

Family Lives Summer Term Programme

Family Lives are delivering 4 Online parenting groups and 2 online workshops (via MS Teams), funded by Herts County Council, in the Summer term for targeted parents/carers who live in Hertfordshire or who have a child attending a Hertfordshire school.

Game central!

After another day of brain-busting SATs papers, we had some downtime before revising for our final paper. We had a choice of activity and almost our whole class selected to sit and play some sort of game including uno, chess and building lego. Everyone was playing so nicely, calmly and respectfully that Miss Hodgson even gave us extra time!

Tree classification

In science we have been learning about the parts of plants and trees. We have been able to identify the different parts and their role in helping the plant or tree grow. Today we got outside to explore our school field and used our knowledge of the different types of leaves to identify the types of trees we have at Fairlands. We spotted lots of Elder trees and Sycamore trees as well as many others.

Mental Health Awareness week

This week is Mental Health awareness week and the focus is on 'movement for mental health'. There are lots of ways we enjoy movement at Fairland; dancing to music, playing at lunch time and taking on physical challenges. We will be talking this week about how doing more of what we enjoy makes us feel good.

Reading and relaxing!

After a busy morning of SATs papers and a little more revision, our teachers gave us some time to escape into the worlds of our reading books. This was time for us to relax, not worry about anything and enjoy some calm. The weather was that lovely, most of us even chose to do our reading outside!

The Bug Hotel!

It has been a bug-tastic week in Nursery! The children visited the bug hotel in our outdoor area, and thought about what the mini-beasts living nearby might like in their home. They collected sticks, leaves, soil, pine-cones and grass to add to the mini-beast's habitat - not forgetting lots of minibeasts to introduce to their new and improved home! The children showed curiosity and kindness this week, well done Nursery!
