Reaching high for the best for your child

Happy reading time everyone!

Friday, 20 December 2024

This term, a group of Fairlands staff have started up a book club and we are loving it - reading is not just for childhood! Today, some of us swapped our Secret Santa gifts and we couldn’t wait for the holidays to start so we could get reading. There’ll be many messages shared about great books over the break, much swapping in the New Year and it will continue to put smiles on our faces.

The whole of the Fairlands team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful festive period and we hope you enjoy the break. We look forward to seeing you all when we return in January.

Happy reading time to one and all!

Thank you for your donations!

Thursday, 12 December 2024

As you all know, we supported Children in Need in a slightly different way this year and focused on helping children and their families in our local community through a reverse advent calendar.

You may remember that we had assemblies led by Kenny Arnold from People for People who explained the concept of a Reverse Advent and how food banks use the donations generated to help families in need.

Yesterday, the Foodshed took delivery of our donation and were overwhelmed with the amount given to them. It took three carloads filled to the brim to get our donations to them! They were so happy and explained that this will help an unbelievable number of families.

We would like to say an enormous thank you to the wonderful Fairlands community who selflessly donated items for other families to have support over Christmas. The whole of Fairlands should be immensely proud of themselves and their generosity. We would also like to say a big thank you to Mrs Herron and Miss Brooker who organised this and shared their passion for it with the whole school.

Singing Club do us proud!

Monday, 2 December 2024

On Sunday, representatives from Mrs Herron's singing club took part in a charity Christmas singing performance at Chesfield Downs Golf club in aid of Stevenage Community Trust. They treated their audience to a fabulous selection of Christmas songs even including a touch of Spanish and signing!

Their performance went down brilliantly and the children did themselves proud. They finished the event off by singing with another school and an adult choir and helped everyone to start their December in a festive way.

Many thanks to Mrs Herron for arranging this great opportunity and for leading the singing club all year round.

Fairlands is awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark

Tuesday, 24 September 2024

We are really proud to announce that we have just been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark. Well done to our Science Leaders, Miss Free & Mrs Mclean, for all their hard work on this!

The Primary Science Quality Mark celebrates a school's commitment to excellence in science leadership, teaching and learning. PSQM is a comprehensive evidence-based professional development programme that effectively develops science leadership, ensuring teachers have the knowledge, capability and support they need to transform science education and shape future generations.

The Primary Science Quality Mark is led by the University of Hertfordshire. Helen Sizer, PSQM Co-Director said: ‘By enabling effective science leadership, PSQM is powering the potential of all children to see the relevance and importance of science in their lives, now and in the future. Schools that have achieved a Primary Science Quality Mark have demonstrated a significant commitment to science leadership, teaching and learning and the profile and quality of science in each accredited school is very high. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, headteachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”
