This week we have been subitising in maths. We have been learning how to recognise small amounts of objects without even counting them. It has helped us to be super quick mathematicians. We learned that as long as the amount of objects are the same they have an equal value. We used numicon, natural resources, Lego and dice to compare amounts. We would really like to show you our subitisng skills at home too. Try showing us some playing cards or a dice so we can impress you.
Wow. What another busy week in Birch class! This week, we have learned the phonemes: m, n, d, p. We have tried our hardest to write the graphemes on our white boards and searched for objects in our environment that match the initial sounds. We have been busy learning about the different areas in our classroom. We have visited the climbing tree, swing, construction area, where we created some complex buildings, the art and design area, where we demonstrated our skills of colour mixing, the outside music area, where we learned how to change the tone of the music by using a variety of equipment to bang our instruments. Some of us also wanted to brave the rain so we learned how to use the waterproofs and wellies too!
We have had another wonderful week in Beech class. We have made even more friends, learnt even more sounds and even started Subitising! Miss Weston and Mrs Kandola are beyond impressed with their hard work and positive attitudes. It has been great to see the children come into school more positively, we hope this continues!
This week we have learnt the sounds i, n, m and d. We have also started to learn to blend the sounds back together. In the afternoons, we have been learning about the areas in our environment. This has been really fun and helpful. We have learnt lots of ideas of what we can do in our independent time. We even learnt how to climb a tree!
Today, we had a special visitor from Nursery. Andy the frog came to see us! Nursery found him in their outside area. We loved spending time with him, thank you Nursery! Have a look at our pictures to see us in action.
Have wonderful weekend!
WOW! What an amazing start to the first week of Reception! Our class have really enjoyed exploring their new classroom and making new friends. It has been wonderful to see the children engaging in their new learning. Even those who have found it tricky to come in have quickly settled and enjoyed each day.
This week we have learnt our first phonemes in Phonics. We have also learnt the graphemes and have practised writing them. We have done lots of counting and we have painted our own self potraits. In our first PE lesson, we learnt all about people who keep us safe and finding our own 'safe space'. We enjoyed playing ambulance and trying something new.
I am beyond impressed with the children's hardwork and positive attitude. It has been a wonderful week full of learning and fun. We hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Birch class have been trying very hard to be brave when coming to school so far this week. We have enjoyed investigating our new environment, finding the resources we like the most and making some new friends within the whole of reception. In our phonics lessons, we have started to learn some new phonemes, matching objects to initial sounds and writing our graphemes. We have also had fun playing a new game called wonky donkey, where we have to listen very carefully so we can find out who pulls our tail to wake us up! Next week we have asked Mrs Kirby if we can do some more modelling in our creative area so watch this space to see some of our marvellous creations.
WOW Ash Class! Your first week in Reception is over and you have been amazing.
All of the adults are so impressed at how well you are coming into class & even when we might get a little upset, we soon wipe the tears and enjoy the day.
We have had a great week meeting the new teachers, exploring our classrooms and investigating our outside area.
This week we found that our planting area had overgrown and we found lots of vegetables. We took them inside, chopped them up and some of us even tried them for the first time too !
Well done for a great first week. We can't wait for next week, well done Ash Class!
Fire and Ice 🔥 🧊 have returned for one more performance and what a performance it was.
The bands manager (Miss Free) pulled the band along on their very own tour bus.
The whole of Nursery and Reception cheered them on while they sang us some songs.
Well done Fire 🔥 and Ice 🧊
Fairlands Festival 2023!
WOW! What a fantastic morning we have had already. The children lined up, went through security whilst having their tickets stamped and then recieved their 'Fairlands Festival 2023' wristband.
The rain has held off all morning !
We have done so much already at our first Fairlands Festival. Glitter tattoos, making streamers, friendship bracelets, chill out tents, fruity drinks, slush puppies, ice-cream, popcorn, raving in the hall, dancing outside in the rain and so much more!
We have had the best day (so far) and we continue this afternoon!
