Snowboards !

By Beech Class , in Reception - Tuesday, 21 February 2023

This week is passion week at Fairlands.
Today a very long bag turned up in our class. We had a guess at what was inside. We guessed Miss Free's cat, a huge pancake, even Mrs Kirby.
Miss Free told us that she is very passionate about something and gave us clues that were in her bag.
The clues were an airport sticker tag, a helmet, some goggles and some big boots.

We tried to guess again what was in the bag. We came up with; motorbike, skateboard, bicycle and lots more!

Miss Free revealed her snowboard! She told us about how she learnt during lockdown and she has been going ever since and even taking it on holiday with her.
We wanted a try! So we had to stretch our legs a bit and put our feet in the big boots.
We tried on the helmet and the goggles and some of us even tried to move the snowboard!

We watched some videos of snowboarding and some of us even want to try this when we are older!

Team Assemble!

By Beech Class, in Reception - Wednesday, 1 February 2023

What a team we are! Wow!
A team of boys in Reception asked if I had any jobs for them to do. So we looked around our outside area and found a Bug Area that needed a bit of work. The team got their wellies on, collected their tools and began the work. We picked up leaves, raked the wood clippings, rolled lots of logs, covered our bird watch hideout and transformed our bug hotel.

We cleaned out the bug hotel and stocked it up with new logs, hay and some brand new bricks especially for bugs and bees.

The team came across a problem... we needed to move lots of heavy logs but it was too tricky. Not too tricky for the dream team. They decided to use a scooter to push the log onto and then transported the log to the bug area. Such a creative idea!

We have such an amazing Reception team!

Dinosaur Explorers!

By Beech, in Reception - Friday, 13 January 2023

This week we couldn't believe our eyes when we turned up at school on Monday and our digging patch had been taped off. It looked suspicious. There was red tape and cones all around it.

We decided to become a Paeleontologist. We put on goggles and a hard hat to investigate.

You would not believe what we found... a skull, a mouth with teeth and lots of bones in our digging patch! We are sure they are from a dinosaur.

We were so excited so we have spent the whole week digging other areas of the garden to find clues. We have found scales, feathers, teeth and more bones!

Keep your eyes peeled for what comes next!

Happy Diwali

By Beech Class, in Reception - Thursday, 3 November 2022

Happy Diwali everyone!

On Wednesday, we had an amazing WOW day celebrating a special festival for lots of children in our school

We took part in lots of exciting activities:

- Making and cooking Samosas

- Making Diya lamps

- Creating Rangoli patterns outside with chalk

- Designing Mehndi hand patterns

- Learning Bhangra dancing

- Making Diya lanterns

We learnt about the festival and how people celebrate it.

On Thursday, a parent of a child in Year 1 came to teach us some Bollywood dancing! We absolutely loved it. She taught us some tricky moves and we had an amazing time showing off our dancing skills.

The Everywhere Bear 🐻

By Beech class, in Reception - Friday, 23 September 2022

In Reception we have been reading a book called 'The Everywhere Bear'.

Then we had a very furry visitor arrive into our classroom
A Bear came into our class and told us that he loves company and will go home with someone every weekend.

We named our bear... Benny !
Benny the Bear is going on his first adventure  We can't wait to hear all about it on Monday

Green Up Your Act

By Reception, in Reception - Thursday, 9 June 2022

Today, we took part in a special workshop, run by a company called 'Green Up Your Act'. In this workshop, we discussed the importance of wildlife in our outside areas. We each got to create our very own wildlife booklet, using a range of materials. Inside our bookelts, is a special seed butterfly. If we place the butterfly under a little bit of water and soil, we should hopefully start to see some flowers grow!

Maypole Dancing

By Ash Class, in Reception - Friday, 6 May 2022

This morning was a little bit different in Ash Class. We started our morning with some MARVELLOUS Maypole dancing! We each got to hold a special ribbon as we skipped around the Maypole. We learnt a special routine, called a 'Maypole dance'. We thought that Maypole dancing was amazing!

Changes over time!

By Reception, in Reception - Thursday, 5 May 2022

Today we visted the pond to see if anymore of the frogspawn had hatched. Mrs Wilks collected water from the pond, so we could take a closer look. We were delighted to see that the tadpoles had grown! We noticed that some tadpoles were larger than others, and concluded that they had hatched at different times. We look forward to visiting the pond again in a couple of weeks to observe even more changes over time!
