As part of Science week Elder class have been thinking about how and why animals camouflage in their enviroments.
We found out the difference between change and adapting was that if something changes it becomes a different form or replaces what it was before where as adapting means it changes to become more suitable for a new situation or enviroment.
The children made butterflies and then hid them around the classroom for everyone to find.
In Year 2 we have been looking at 'Animals including humans' and during 'Science Week' this week, we looked at the theme ‘adapt and change’ by focusing on animals that can camouflage.
We now know that camouflage is where an animal has a certain colour or pattern on their fur/skin that helps them to blend into their environment. Animals use camouflage to help protect them from predators or to be able to sneak up on their prey without being seen.
A good example of camouflaging is the leaf butterfly as it resembles a dead leaf. Other colourful butterflies advertise the fact that they are poisonous or taste bad to their enemies by their vivid colours.
We then had a go at making our own butterflies and hid them around our classroom for our friends to find!
Elm Class have been thinking about 'Too good to be true?' in relation to internet safety. We thought about the skills and knowledge we can use to stay safe online.
We then made some posters to show how to keep safe online. These included intructions like 'Stop and tell a trusted adult'.
Elder Class have been thinking about 'Too good to be true?' in relation to internet safety. We talked about how to keep ourselves safe on line and how we can protect ourselves from internet scams.
We made some posters to help us stay safe on line.
Today we celebrated World Book day. We dressed up as characters from our favourite stories and some of us brought in our favourite book. We then shared these during circle time. These included Harry Potter, Bluey, Fairy Unicorns and Dog Man. Mrs Mclean shared her favourite book which is called The Smed and The Smoos. We learnt how this book is special because it teaches you that you can be friends with anyone, regardless of they way they look or act. We have had the best day!
Fir Class have had an amazing World Book Day. We started the day with a catwalk to show off our amazing book character costumes.
We then spent some time sharing our books and discussing what we liked about them. We also enjoyed making our own bookmarks to take home.
We ended the day with a Kahoot quiz about some of our favourite book characters and enjoyed seeing all of the points and streaks in a row we could get!
Elder Class have had an amazing World Book Day. We have dressed up as book characters and shared each other's favourite book.
We then talked about our book and what we liked about it. We discussed whether we would recommend it to our friends and what made it a good read.
We had a visit from a secret reader that came to our class. Mrs Johnson read Harris McCoo and the rainbow haggis by Steven Brown. Elder Class liked the story because it was funny, there were rainbows and it included a game where we had to spot an owl.
In Maths this week, Year 2 have been learning about halving and doubling with numbers. We know that you cannot half a odd number. Today we were halving and doubling money. We would pick a value such as 50p and then with a partner, decide whether to double or half it. We then would record this on our whiteboards and show the new value using the coins.
During PE this term, we have been exploring and developing basic gymnastic actions on the floor and by using the aparatus. They have been working on their skills of jumping, rolling, balancing and developing an awareness when creating sequences which included the use of shapes, levels and directions.
The children really enjoyed getting the aparatus out in our PE lessons and putting all the skills they learnt into practice!
This term our topic has changed to, 'Amazing Art'. Over the last two weeks, we have been looking at shading and patterns by making dark and light tones with a pencil. In our Art lesson this week, we applied the skills we have been learning by using drawing techniques to an artist's work. The children are so proud of their drawings as we are too!
