Sewing bookmarks

By Elm , in Year 2 - Friday, 30 June 2023

Year 2 have been working really hard to sew their very own bookmark! First, we practised putting thread through a metal needle. Then, we practised some running stitches on hessian material. After that, we planned our design and ensured it was simple as we learned sewing is not as easy as it looks. Finally, we sewed on felt material and we even added a button and some ribbon to give it our personal touch!

Year 2

By Elm, in Year 2 - Wednesday, 7 June 2023

In science, Elm class have been busy planting sunflower seeds. We discussed what a fair test is and for our investigation we only changed the location of our seeds so we can observe how it affects their growth. We predicted that the pot left on the window sill will grow better than the pot in the cupboard as it will absorb natural sunlight.

Papier-mâché

By Elm, in Year 2 - Thursday, 25 May 2023

In art this week, we used papier-mâché to make a peach, inspired from the story ‘James and the Giant Peach’. We worked as a team and discussed what materials we will use. Next, we painted the peach orange, using the primary colours red and yellow. Finally, we evaluated our work and we definitely agree Papier-mâché and painting is a hard and messy job but good fun! :)
