As part of our celebrations topic, year 2 had a special visitor today - one of our parents!
They came and told us all about the history of Diwali, we learnt that it was a celebration of positivity and joy. They told us how people create their own temples in the homes filled with lots of objects that symbolise positive and joyful things.
After that, we got to do some dancing and learn lots of fun new moves.
We had a grat time and asked lots of thoughtful questions.
Thank you to our special visitor!
Elder Class had an amazing day today. We used our knowledge of Tudor housesthat burnt down in the Great Fire of London to design and create our own houses. We used our cutting, joining and concstruction skills and tried our best to include features of Tudor houses like jetty's, timber and daub. We recreated our own Pudding Lane and then watched a reenactment of how the houses caught fire and how the fire spread.
Today, we were comparing firefighters from 1666 to firefighters from 2023. We were due a visit from Stevenage Firestation but unfortunately, they had to attend an emergency.
We still managed to learn all about being a firefighter and the special uniform that they wear to protect themselves. Sadly, in 1666 they didn't have a uniform and they weren't even trained in fighting fires!
We saw artefacts from 1666 and they included leather buckets and fire squirts which were used to fight fires but they weren't as useful as the hoses firefighters have today.
This afternoon, we were inspired by learning and wanted to paint our own fire engines.
What do you think?
We had such an exciting day full of fun activities. We learnt all about how the fire started and the reasons it spread so far.
Did you know, the wind was very strong so it blew the fire even further? The houses were also so close together that you could reach out and touch your neighbour so the fire spread from house to house.
Eventually, the fire was out! It started on a Sunday and was out by Thursday. 2/3 of London was destroyed!
We spent the morning practising different jobs, why not ask us which jobs we enjoyed the most.
Welcome back year 2!
What a fabulous first week we have had back at school.
Every Friday, the blog will be updated with this week's home learning sheet. Here you can find information about spellings, times tables and topic home activties.
There might also be some important information for parents/carers here too.
