Tudor Houses

By Elder Class, in Year 2 - Friday, 13 October 2023

Elder Class had an amazing day today. We used our knowledge of Tudor housesthat burnt down in the Great Fire of London to design and create our own houses. We used our cutting, joining and concstruction skills and tried our best to include features of Tudor houses like jetty's, timber and daub. We recreated our own Pudding Lane and then watched a reenactment of how the houses caught fire and how the fire spread.

Firefighters then and now.

By Elm class, in Year 2 - Friday, 6 October 2023

Today, we were comparing firefighters from 1666 to firefighters from 2023. We were due a visit from Stevenage Firestation but unfortunately, they had to attend an emergency.

We still managed to learn all about being a firefighter and the special uniform that they wear to protect themselves. Sadly, in 1666 they didn't have a uniform and they weren't even trained in fighting fires!

We saw artefacts from 1666 and they included leather buckets and fire squirts which were used to fight fires but they weren't as useful as the hoses firefighters have today.

This afternoon, we were inspired by learning and wanted to paint our own fire engines.

What do you think?

Great Fire of London WOW day!

By Year 2, in Year 2 - Wednesday, 13 September 2023

We had such an exciting day full of fun activities. We learnt all about how the fire started and the reasons it spread so far.

Did you know, the wind was very strong so it blew the fire even further? The houses were also so close together that you could reach out and touch your neighbour so the fire spread from house to house.

Eventually, the fire was out! It started on a Sunday and was out by Thursday. 2/3 of London was destroyed!

We spent the morning practising different jobs, why not ask us which jobs we enjoyed the most.

WOW Day

By Year 2, in Year 2 - Friday, 14 July 2023

Today we enjoyed our Australian 'WOW Day’ in Year 2.

We had a special visit from an international world record holder called Adam, and his friend Nils who is also a boomerang champion from the Netherlands! We took part in a boomerang workshop, where they demonstrated how to throw a boomerang and then the children were able to have a go at throwing them too!

We were very lucky as Adam also brought in his own Australian instrument, the digeridoo.  We got to see how he plays it and the funny, deep sound that it makes.

He told us of how he created a 9ft boomerang and how he was able to throw it. If you’d like to share this at home, here is a clip of when Adam was invited by The One Show to share his experience.
