World Book Day in Elder class!

By Elder Class, in Year 2 - Thursday, 7 March 2024

We've had such a exciting day celebrating World Book Day in Elder class. We spent the day completing activites  the based on the book, 'On the way home' by Jill Murphy.

In the morning, the children thought of ideas and created their own comic strip based on the story. Then in the afternoon they were busy taking part in a carousel of activites! The activities included making a crocodile paper chain, finding facts about animals then designing a fact sheet, completing a wanted poster to find the animals and lastly they had a go at designing their own safe playground.

If you'd like to listen to the story and share it with your child at home, the link is shown below.

Gathering data

By Elm class, in Year 2 - Thursday, 29 February 2024

In computing, we looked at pictograms and learnt how to gather data using pictures.

We then created our own tally charts and asked each other questions such as:

"What is your favourite animal?"  and  "What is your favourite snack?"

Dolphin was one of the most popular animals and strawberries were a favourite fruit!

Our Science Experiment!

By Fir Class, in Year 2 - Friday, 16 February 2024

We are learning about being healthy. In Fir class, we took part in an experiment to investigate if older children are always taller. We predicted that this was true. Some children measured each other with metre sticks and other children measured with cubes. We had to make sure it was a fair test when measuring! We found out that it doesn't matter how old you are, everyone is different. If you are six years old, you could be taller than a seven year old.

The Writing Project

By Elder Class, in Year 2 - Friday, 2 February 2024

The children in Elder Class have enjoyed becoming Poets. All the children wrote their own Free Verse Poems which included amazing descriptive langauge, similies and alliteration.

Each class teacher picked three individual poems, which was an incredibly difficult task when everyone had tried so hard. Certifcates were presented to the children in assembly today.

Well done to all Elder Class.

We love learning!

By Elm class, in Year 2 - Thursday, 25 January 2024

During our JIGSAW lesson, we thought all about how we learn and what makes us a great learner. Some of the skills we suggested were: being a good listener, asking lots of questions and not giving up!

We then practised learning something new, some of us learnt the Macarana, others practised counting to 20 in French and Mandarin and the remaining children learnt a verse from the Owl and the Pussycat.

At the end, we performed what we had learnt so far and we all said that we felt proud of what we had achieved with our learning skills.

What is a scientist?

By Elm class, in Year 2 - Friday, 12 January 2024

This week we have been discussing what a scientist looks like and who can be a scientist.

At first we thought of all the film and cartoon scientists and how they all wore white cloaks. Then we began thinking about the real science careers and we were really surprised to find that some of our dreams and goals included careers in science!

We now know that people who take care of animals on land and sea are scientists, those that explore or visit space are scientists and even the people who create new foods are scientists!

We then imagined ourselves as scientists and drew the type of scientist we would most like to be.

It's a Nativity!

By Year 2, in Year 2 - Wednesday, 13 December 2023

WOW!

What a brilliant day we have had performing to you all! We have been practising so hard for weeks and we think you'll agree it showed! We really enjoyed singing our songs, learning all of the actions and it was great fun getting to dress up.

Thank you very much to all of those who were able to come along and watch!

We wish you a merry Christmas!

Shared reading

By Year 2, in Year 2 - Friday, 24 November 2023

This morning, we invited our grown ups in to read our very own stories!

We have been working hard in our writing lessons to retell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We loved sharing our stories with all the adults and are very proud of our traditional tales.

Celebrating Diwali

By Year 2, in Year 2 - Wednesday, 8 November 2023

As part of our celebrations topic, year 2 had a special visitor today - one of our parents!

They came and told us all about the history of Diwali, we learnt that it was a celebration of positivity and joy. They told us how people create their own temples in the homes filled with lots of objects that symbolise positive and joyful things.

After that, we got to do some dancing and learn lots of fun new moves.

We had a grat time and asked lots of thoughtful questions.

Thank you to our special visitor!
