Paradise wildlife park

By Holly Class, in Year 3 - Monday, 17 July 2023

What a brilliant time we had on our school trip! The rain only made the day more fun and didn't stop us from seeing all of the interesting animals. Our favourite parts were; getting up close to the sleeping lion, the baby monkeys and sliding down the racing slides! Mrs Toll's favourite part was the dinosaur trail because she was so impressed by all of our Jurrasic knowledge.

We saw many animals from lots of different continents and we liked playing 'match the animal to the country'.

Can you guess where a Camel lives?

Wet But Wonderful

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Sunday, 16 July 2023

What an amazing day Hazel class experienced on Friday. Yes, it was very wet but they had an amazing time. From walking in the woods and spotting wolves to being just centimetres away from a pride of lions. They were fully immersed in a day packed full of enriching experiences for their first ever school trip! The children loved the dinosaur park and they felt like Jurrasic Park explorers as the different dinosaur species towered above them. What a great way to end a perfect year for year 3 and Hazel class.

Paradise Wildlife Park

By Hornbeam, in Year 3 - Friday, 14 July 2023

Have Hornbeam class got wet today? Yes!
Have we walked over 8,000 steps? Yes!
Have we seen more than 15 species of animals? Yes!
Have we had a wonderful trip? Absolutely!
Hornbeam class began their adventure with a walk through the World of Animals. We enjoyed listening to a camel talk as well as climbing high above the enclosures to spot the animals.
We then crossed over the Wildlife Park and explored the dinosaurs. We all had a photo in a jeep to try get away from a T-Rex! Mrs Johnson will print these to send home next week.
We had worked up an appetite by this point and enjoyed lunch under a picnic umbrella before heading to watch a bird show.
We warmed up in the reptile enclosure before getting a little damp in the park.
We were brilliantly behaved and all the adults were very impressed.
Have a restful weekend before a busy final week of year 3!

Kenning poetry

By Holly Class, in Year 3 - Wednesday, 12 July 2023

This week we have been learning about Kenning poetry. Did you know, Kenning poems come from language used by the Anglo-saxons and are like riddles? Your reader has to guess the theme of the poem.

In Holly class, we wrote some brilliantly poetry about animals we hope to see on our upcoming trip. Then, some of us performed our poems to year 2 and year 5. Once we had read our poems they had to use the clues to guess which animals we were talking about. Everyone was able to guess our poem themes because we had used specific vocabulary.

Can you guess the animal?

Egg-layer

Ocean-diver

Ice-slider

Snow-waddler

Fish-gobbler

Fin-flapper

Spelling Bee

By Year 3, in Year 3 - Wednesday, 21 June 2023

Are you year 3's best speller?

Next Friday's spelling test will look a little different. Instead of the usual spelling test, we shall be competiting for the title of Top Class speller! Children will be tested on the words in the link, we have been practising these words while in year 3 so pupils should be confident spelling these words.

Little Wandle groups will also be having their own spelling bee during their sessions.

Kind Kids we need you!

By Year 3 , in Year 3 - Thursday, 15 June 2023

As wonderful members of the Fairlands community, we need you to get creative and come up with a new motto, rap or rhyme to help us remember to be kind when it is trickiest!

We know it can be hard to be kind when trying to resolve conflict so we are hoping a new school motto will help us show kindness to everyone.

The winning motto's will recieve rewards and will be shared in our assemblies so the catchier the better.

We can't wait to see what you create!

Also, thank you to those who have already returned their first Kindness home learning task to school. Anyone who is still working on theirs please return to your class teacher ASAP.

Happy Human Project

By Holly class, in Year 3 - Tuesday, 6 June 2023

As part of this month's value of KINDNESS!

Holly class spent the afternoon being kind to themselves and taking some time to be mindful with Charlotte from the 'Happy Human Project'.

First we played a game activating different parts of our brain and testing them to see how they react. Then we played a game trying to be the calmest in the room.

Next, we practised massage and learnt how touch helps to calm our busy brain. Finally, we spent some time laying down, closing our eyes and meditating.

We all felt incredibly peaceful afterwards!
