Perimeter Problems

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Wednesday, 10 January 2024

In our maths lesson this week we have been looking at perimeters. Did you know the perimeter is the length of the out side of a shape or area. We looked at rectangles and squares and calculated the perimeter by adding the length and width then mulitplied that answer by 2. For E.g. a rectangle with a width of 3cm and a length of 7cm = 3 + 7 = 10 then multiply by 2 for the other 2 sides. The answer is then 20cm! We then looked at rectangles or squares that look different but have the same perimeter. To help us we used straws to make the diagram before we calculated each perimeter.

Under our feet

By Hornbeam, in Year 3 - Monday, 8 January 2024

Hornbeam have kicked their new topic 'Under our Feet' to a rocking start this morning by going on a rock hunt.

We thought about what we already know about rocks and soils and Mrs Johnson explained the different types of rocks. We then walked to the mound on the upper field to find lots of different types of rocks. When we got back to class, we sorted the rocks.

SFC Sports Festival

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Wednesday, 6 December 2023

It was a bit chilly, but year 3 had an amazing time celebrating the end of this half terms PE lessons with Stevenage FC coaches. They had a selection of different sports activities which focused on the skills that they had previously learnt. The children also worked collaboratively within the year group with different children from each of the 3 classes.

Music Madness

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Wednesday, 6 December 2023

Year 3 had an amazing time using the new musical instruments that have been purchased to improve and enhance their music lessons. Drums, shakers, triangles and wood blocks were just a few of the instruments they used. It was a little bit noisy but they had great fun!

Magnetic fun

By Hornbeam, in Year 3 - Thursday, 19 October 2023

We had great fun this morning testing magnets. We investigated different types of magnets and tested which ones attract and repel. We then thought about why this might be.
I wonder how magnetic items you can find at home?
