At the end of last half term, a group of year 3 girls were chosen to represent our school at an inter-schools football festival at Shephalbury Sports Academy. The event was organised by Stevenage FC Foundation and it was a great opportunity for the girls to come together and celebrate the game of football. Despite the very hot weather, the girls played tremendously and represented Fairlands impeccably. They also received a super medal for their participation - well done girls!

This month's value is Kindness and we have been discussing all the ways we can show kindness and understanding to others. Please see the attached homework flyer we would like pupils to discuss with their families.

Year 3 have linked their Plant Science topic to Textiles and have deisgned and made their own plant seed bag!

We began our learning by looking at famous art and used the colours to inspire us with our bag design. 

We used templates to cut a flower and a circle which became a badge for our bag.

We then sewed a button to the badge. 

Next, we chose fabric to practise the running stitch along. 

Finally, we plaited wool to create a drawstring for our bag. 

We have worked incredibly hard and feel super proud of how resilient we have been!

Year 3, we would love for you to get involved in this competition...

Stevenage Borough council are running a competition in celebration of 'International Composting Week' next week. They have partnered with a local author called Polly Owen and you could win a signed and dedicated copy of her book 'Darwin's super-ppoping worm spectacular' AS WELL AS your own wormery! 

All you have to do is create a poster with pictures informing people of what sort of items can be composted. 

The winning poster will be used to promote composting and recycling in Stevenage by the council! You will also get the chance to have your photo taken with your final design. 

The competition closes on Friday 26th May 2023 and you can email your entries to Mrs Toll or straight to Claire Nicholls at SB council

Let your teacher know if you get involved as we would love to see your designs and you could earn yourself some school rewards too!
