Passion Week - It's a horse!

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Thursday, 23 February 2023

This week, year 3 and the whole school had a very special visitor, Archie the horse. Miss Ferguson bought him into school to share her passion of horse riding and looking after him. The children had a great time giving him lots of fuss. I think Archie enjoyed his visit too as he muched his way through the long grass on the field.

Mindful walk in the woods

By Year 3, in Year 3 - Saturday, 11 February 2023

Our topic this half term has been based upon the text 'The Midnight Fair'. We have been learning about woodland habitats and the creatures that live there. As we have also been celebrating Children's Mental Health week this week, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to go for a mindful walk to woods!

It was a long walk but we had a brilliant time exploring the habitat. We identified trees by their leaves, seeds and trunks, we found some very small wildlife down on the ground and we spotted some of the first signs of spring!

Thank you very much to all of the grown ups who joined us on our walk, you made it even more exciting for us!

M is for Modern Art!

By Year 3 , in Year 3 - Monday, 6 February 2023

Today we celebrated Modern Art in year 3. We learnt about the artistic styles of Matisse, Mondrian and Monet. Once we read a bit about them, we attempted to create our own pieces in their style. We used paint, paper and pastels to create our artworks.

We thought that all of these artists had to work hard to achieve their success because not everyone believed in them. They reminded us that it is important to always be yourself even if it means being different to others. It’s ok to stand out!

We also took a virtual tour through the TATE modern and discovered some artists within the LGBTQ+ community. They all created art that allowed them to express who they were inside which was really inspiring.

Times Tables Fun

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Sunday, 29 January 2023

In year 3, we are trying our very best to learn our times tables. Along with other classes in our year group, Hazel class have designed different games and posters to help children learn their times tables. We also play TT Rock stars, which is an online maths resource as much as we can to improve our quick recall of our x tables knowledge.

Perfect Pizzas

By Kim Ferguson, in Year 3 - Tuesday, 24 January 2023

·      In our science lessons, we have been thinking about the right types and amount of nutrition our bodies need to stay healthy. We recieve the nutrition we need from what we eat so we decided to make pizzas. First, we designed our pizza using a variety of different food from the food groups: carbohydrates, protein, fruit and vegetables and fats. We then made our pizza, cooked them and finally enjoyed eating them in class!
