A word from our Chair of Governors

Monday, 18 July 2022

As the end of term approaches, I’m grateful that we made it through a whole academic year without a national lockdown… although we did have a few covid outbreaks in the school.

We started the year in September with a bang, receiving our first Ofsted inspection since 2012… the whole school pulled together and we maintained our Good Rating!!

On the 14th July all the children in the school got to spend time in their new classrooms with their new teachers and classmates… always an exciting day for the children and parents/carers alike! That also means that our wonderful Year Six cohort spent the day visiting their new secondary schools. Good luck to all our Year Six leavers and I can’t wait to watch your leavers show next week… it always makes me feel emotional!

This year we have seen a number of changes to our governing body: we said goodbye to José Ángel García; we welcomed Cheryl Holt - a new parent governor; and Jon Barrett - a new Co-opted governor. We do have a few vacancies starting in September 2023 so please reach out if you would like to know more on how you could support the school Claire.Peacock@fairlands.herts.sch.uk

Now we are dealing with an unprecendeted heatwave - thank you to all the staff who once again are stepping up to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

Have a safe summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 5th  September.

Kind regards

Claire Peacock, Chair of Governors

Singing Club did us proud!

Monday, 4 July 2022

On Wednesday 29th June, pupils from Year 3 and 5 took part in Stevenage Primary Schools in Concert!

They performed a version of Bill Wethers 'Lean on Me' as a homage to our school values of friendship and kindness. The singing club have been working incredibly hard to prepare for this show over the last few months and on the night, they confidently sang in front of a large audience that included the mayor, schools across Stevenage and local families. Their two pieces in the performance were a great success and everyone was very impressed with how well the children represented Fairlands.

The organisers of the event have commented on how polite and respectful our school were throughout the rehearsal and performance time and we have already been invited back again next year!

Mrs Toll has loved leading the singing group and has been blown away by the children's commitment and enthusiasm towards the event. She was incredibly proud watching them perform their piece with passion.

Well done singers!

Exciting Stevenage Day news!

Tuesday, 7 June 2022

This Sunday, 12th June, is Stevenage Day on King George's playing field. It is taking place from 11:30am until 5:30pm and - for the first time ever - we are going to be there!

Some of our Year 6 children are performing a demonstration of their maypole skills between 145pm and 210pm in the central display arena and would love your support. There will also be a stall with some activities for children and a fundraising game to participate in. It would be super to see as many of you as possible and help raise the profile of our fantastic school. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather too please!
