Our last writing unit before we break up for Christmas has been cinquain poems - something that we have absolutely loved writing! Our final piece is a poem all about World War 1. We spent some lessons building up vocabulary and then we had to ensure that these phrases adhered to the strict syllable rules for cinquain poems: 2, 4, 6, 8, 2. We then had to write our poems in that classic diamond shape. Here are some of our finished pieces!
This half term, our Science topic has been: Electricity! Each half term, once all our learning is finished, we complete a double page spread to present our learning. We always ensure that these are detailed, informative and eye-catching. Here are some of our examples!
Our topic for this half term has been natural disasters - a topic that many of us have found incredibly interesting! Our homework task was to create a project on a natural disaster of our choice. Here of two of the examples that were handed in - these children did an amazing job presenting their learning and it is clear that they have worked incredibly hard!
Yesterday, Year 6 had their natural disasters WOW Day! The children began their day by building and decorating their own volcanoes. Afterwards, they got themselves comfy with cushions and settled down to watch 'Elemental'. Finally, once their volcanoes were dry, they spent the afternoon mixing substances to create a chemical reaction. It was an absolute joy to see their faces light up as their lava exploded out of the crater at the top! What a fantastic day!
This half term, our Science topic is: Electricity! Last week, we had the chance to experiment with some of the equipment that we have. First, we designed our own circuit and then we were able to put this into practice. A few of our lightbulbs weren't working so we had to be resilient and test a few pieces of equipment. Luckily, we all managed to get a lightlbulb to light up!
Last night, we enjoyed our final evening at Condover Hall with a disco! We dressed up in our nicest outfits and danced the night away! We are on way home after a fantastic week - the children cannot wait to share their favourite experiences from their time away!
Day 3 at Condover Hall has been a success so far - it has been jam packed with new activities such as the trapeze, laser maze, low ropes and team challenge. We have faced our fears, developed our team work and now we are ready for a well-deserved dinner before we head to the disco for our last night!
The year 6 children, who have come to Condover Hall, have had a fantastic first full day! We have completed a range of activities including: aerial trek, abseiling, orienteering and archery. We are constantly on the go and absolutely love it! To finish off the day, we are enjoying a lovely camp fire - it is safe to say we will all sleep well tonight!
Year 6 had a fantastic morning yesterday, competing in sports day. They were extremely glad that it was able to be rearranged and they thoroughly enjoyed their last sports day in primary school. Well done to winning forest!
Herts Haven Cafés for 10-18s is opening in Stevenage - this could be beneficial for children going into Year 7 and to have somewhere to access support during the summer holidays.
Safe and Welcoming Spaces for Young People to Embrace their Emotional Wellbeing
Hosted by Hertfordshire Mind Network, these safe and welcoming spaces will offer compassionate face to face emotional wellbeing support and guidance from trained workers, without the need for a professional referral.
Workers at the Cafés will provide empathy and a safe space for young people to learn more about emotional wellbeing, ways in which they can keep themselves emotionally well and various ways in which they can better understand and/or express their emotions. Through open and caring conversations, they aim to create a sense of belonging and connection.
Practical help may include guidance on coping strategies, stress management techniques, and problem-solving skills. The Cafés will also provide a safe space and hardware to access digital support including The Sandbox and Lumi Nova, as well as opportunities to talk through alternative services.
Café is at Bowes Lyon Young People’s Centre, St George's Way, Stevenage SG1 1XY
