Reaching high for the best for your child

The Sports Premium is a grant which is allocated to schools to develop and enhance sports provision. In 2014-15, Fairlands Primary School received £8000 and used this money to contribute to employing a Sports Coach and a Sports Apprentice. These two members of staff work in EYFS to KS2, supporting teachers in delivering high quality teaching of all aspects of physical education. Our Value for the month of November is Courage. We will be thinking about having 'everyday' courage, or being brave - with things like going to the dentist or going swimming for the first time.

We will also be thinking about bigger acts of courage - such as those shown by people who have given their lives in war - as part of our Remembrance Day assembly. 

Today, we thought about the courage shown by child refugees when they flee war-torn countries or persecution. We watched the video here about Matiullah, who is a refugee from Afghanistan, and thought about the courage his story showed.

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who completed a Parent View survey at Parent/Carer Consultations last week.

The results are very positive, with 98% of parents agreeing that their child is happy at school, 96% agreeing that their child makes good progress, and 96% of parents saying that they would recommend Fairlands to another parent. You can read all of the results here.

Our Value for the month of October is TOLERANCE!

We are thinking about what it means to be tolerant. We have decided it means showing respect that other people can be different to me, look different and have different opinions or beliefs.

We are creating our own Tolerance Zebra, to remind us that beautiful things happen when we all join together to celebrate our differences!

Did you know … just registering your child for Free School Meals Status could mean that the school gets extra money for your child?

THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM UNIVERSAL FREE SCHOOL MEALS, which is where all children in Reception to Year 2 are automatically offered a school meal for free.

If you are on certain benefits, you may be entitled to register for Free School Meal Status, which entitles your child to between £300 and £1320 Pupil Premium Funding – even if your child never has a school meal.  Click here to find out if you are entitled to register for Free School Meal Status.
