Find out about the issues that are being discussed at our latest Parent & Carer Forum! The Forums are run by the Headship team and are an informal opportunity to raise any issues that you want to discuss with us and have a cup of tea, coffee and a biscuit!
The new home learning information booklet was discussed at our first meeting. This is guidance for parents to support home learning through a chat, play, read initiative. Our representatives felt that this approach would be beneficial, learning through fun and relaxed activities that can be included into their daily routine.
Friend of Fairlands are looking for new volunteers. If you have some time to spare and are interested in helping with events and fundraising, please email email@example.com.
Mr Staples and the representatives looked through the existing transition policy, which outlines provision for each year when transitioning on to a new academic year. Work to support all children from Early Years to Year 1 begins early on in summer term, with shared play/lunch times, spending time in classes meeting teachers and spending time on the upper site so that children can familiarize themselves with the layout. Children in years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will meet their new teacher on 11th July and have the opportunity to see their new classroom. For our Year 6 students, they receive visits from staff/teachers from their new secondary school, as well as visiting their new school for a whole day!
As you know, we have been reviewing our curriculum and thinking carefully about how we implement our curriculum aims and vision. At Parent Forum we looked at our Curriculum Information Booklets and agreed a new format. We are hoping that the new style will help parents to support their child’s learning by focusing on the key vocabulary the children need to learn for each topic. Keep an eye out for the new booklet in the Spring term!
Mr Staples welcomed two new parent representatives to our first meeting of this academic year. Miss Manning will be representing Year 1 and Mrs Wakefield will be representing Year 3.
Mr Staples confirmed that one of the priorities of the school and the Headship team is the school’s curriculum. Fairlands needs to ensure that the curriculum the school offers is clear on its intent and its aims. As part of this review it had been agreed that the curriculum continued to relate back to the school’s vision statement “We Are ‘Reaching High’ with priorities within this being a safe, happy, aspirational environment. Views from teachers confirmed that our vision was still valid and relevant to our children. The representatives all agreed with the statement, highlighting that they feel that their children do feel safe and happy within the school.
Nursery Parents/Carers – we are looking for someone to represent Nursery at our monthly meetings. If you are interested, please contact the school office. Should we receive more than one parent/carer, we will simply draw names out of a hat.
Following another successful year Mr Staples thanked the representatives for their time and support given at all of the meetings. With this being the last meeting for our Year 6 representative, Mr Staples gave special thanks to Miss Tracey Nixon. Miss Nixon has been a valued member of the Parent Forum team.
The main focus of this month's Parent Forum was ways in which to promote Fairlands Primary School to the wider community. We currently have 51 pupil vacancies across the school. Miss Read, Mrs Wilson and the forum representatives discussed several ways in which to highlight the school and its facilities - these included holding an open evening for prospective new parents, advertising using banners on outside areas, media involvement at school events. Fairlands will once again hold a summer fete. Calling all Year 1 Parents! We are looking for a new representative to attend the monthly meetings. If you are interested, please see the school office. Should we receive a number of interested parents, names will be entered into a hat. Thank you to Mrs Gordon, our previous Year 1 representative, for her support and commitment. Our next meeting will be on 2nd March 2018. If you have any items you wish to be discussed, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
